APINACA (AKB48)

APINACA ( AKB48 ) with CAS 1345973-53-6, IUPAC N-(Adamantan-1-yl)-1-pentyl-1H-indazole-3-carboxamide and molecular formula C23H31N3O is one of the newest synthetic cannabinoids on the market. It comes in a solid crystalline form and with ≥98 percent purity when sold.

Belonging to synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists, APINACA has its known affinity for both CB1 and CB2 receptors, but it binds to these receptors two-fold higher with CB2 subtype (IC50-value of 824 and 430 nM) affinity. However, its binding affinity with both subtypes of receptors is said to be 15-fold lower versus THC. Based on studies, it was slightly potent in lowering time and dose dependent manner in terms of locomotors in mice (ID50-value 2.2 mg/kg).

According to World Health Organization (WHO) information sheet “APINACA, Critical Review Report, Agenda item 4.9” of the Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (36th meeting, June 16-24, 2014, Geneva), RC APINACA is a psychoactive substance with similar effects to THC in real weed and is discovered in several herbal products sold in many names online and in specialized shops.

And just like other SCRAs, according to the same report, AKB48 may cause vomiting, nausea, hypertension, agitation, panic attacks, hallucinations or chest pain. While intoxications, it adds, has led to hospitalizations, any psychoactive SCRA was hardly identified.  (*Effects may vary based on body weight, height and mass, along with other factors.)

Now, let’s check out something from ‘syntheticdave’ (Drugs Forum) and what he reported about this drug. To begin with, he said this was one of the best cannabinoids (requiring only minimal dosing of about 1mg) he had personally researched and tested. He described, its effects were much like real marijuana, although with a slightly different feel to it.

He said that it came up very clean in a gradual manner and continued to build up until it reached a very pleasant peak. It was also one of the first cannabinoids that gave him the feeling of smoking marijuana again and a silly, slowed down feeling coupled with giggles as if he was a schoolchild, making the experience really pleasurable.

He added that he had no desire of re-dosing with AKB48, but doing so would bring back that familiar feeling—to that something quite enjoyable. He furthered that he might create a blend using it, but right now, vaporizing the pure powder was enough.

APINACA effects would try to creep up, so users might want to skip re-dosing. Nevertheless, the overall experience was very pleasurable throughout his body, and with the drug’s high affinity to the CB2 receptor, it kept anxiety levels low, as compared to other ‘noids out there, he concluded.
